Zero Percent By J.W. Cox

“Zero Percent” is a short indie film that takes the audience on a gripping and suspenseful journey through the experience of a woman held captive, desperately waiting for a chance to escape.

The film opens with a shot of the protagonist, Eden, locked in a small room, using the cut technique to show the passage of time, conveying the fear and desperation she feels as she struggles to come to terms with her situation. The film’s pacing is expertly handled, building tension and suspense throughout. The audience is left on the edge of their seat, wondering when and how Eden will be able to escape. The majority of the film takes place in the small room where Eden is held captive. This helps to create a sense of confinement and hopelessness, increasing the emotional impact of the story.

The directing in this short film was exceptional. The director/ writer “J.W. Cox” skillfully used a number of cinematic techniques to create a visually stunning and emotionally powerful story,  building tension and suspense in all the right places. The use of lighting and sound design was particularly effective in creating a specific mood and atmosphere. The director also drew exceptional performances from the cast, bringing out the nuances of their characters and elevating the overall quality of the film. Overall, the directing was a noticeable aspect of the film and a testament to the director’s skill and creativity.

The performances of the cast are outstanding, with the lead actress “Brandi Botken” who played Eden , delivering a powerful portrayal of a woman pushed to the verge. Her fear, frustration, and desperation are noticeable, and the supporting actors do an excellent job of portraying the complex emotions.

 

One of the most impressive aspects of “Zero Percent” is the way it deals with the difficult themes such as trauma and resilience with sensitivity. The film doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of what Eden is going through, but it also shows the strength and toughness she draws upon in order to survive.
